After suffering for few days, I opened the book again. This time I read it from the beginning. I wasn’t impressed by the protagonist. In fact, the story didn't pique my interest in the least, but to my surprise, I was very much affected by Paulo's thought-provoking ideologies.
Every page of this book has its own wisdom, and these two lessons helped me the most.
First lesson:
“When each day is the same as the next, it's because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”
Among the many quotes Paulo delivered, this one caused me the utmost impact at that point of my life. This quote made me realize something extraordinary that: I am not lacking anything and neither my life does.
My life became stagnant and miserable not because of what I’ve been doing, but because of what I’ve been seeing. After reading this book, I learnt to appreciate the things I have. I learnt to rejoice about how thorn bushes have roses, instead of complaining how rose bushes have thorns.
I don’t have to do something extravagant in my life to break its monotony.
Every cloud has a silver lining. I just have to look for my own each time I suffer and move forward.
Second lesson:
“If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
Just like I have my life, others have their own. Upon realizing this, I learnt to accept the choices of others and at the same time, I made sure to not be influenced by others in making decisions for me.
