Why should you be reading?

Is reading an important skill? Yes. That is how we generally gain knowledge, acquire wisdom, learn things, get to see, and last but not least, evolve . Is reading the most important ? Not necessarily. Reading is not everyone's cup of tea. One might start to dislike reading at any point in their life. No one is going to force anyone otherwise. Yet, one can get imbued with the significance of it. Reading is simply one among the various means to find out, escape, and luxuriate in. For all I know, people have been doing all that in whichever way they like. So it’s not something one has to compel themself to try. If it is so, then why should you read? Why do you listen to music? Because it does something to you that no other means can do. Same goes with the reading too.  Infact, it is one among the most indispensable forms of entertainment. At least for millions of people, if not for all. The effect of finishing a novel lasts longer than that of finishing a movie or a drama. It’s ...

What have you learned after reading Alchemist, a novel by Paulo Coelho?

I started this book in a very bad mood.  Couldn’t help, it was one of my tragic days. Halfway through this book, in addition to my other concerns, I got frustrated at how flat my life chart was from the shepherd's own.  I craved for a change, a drastic one at that.  The intense urge which I felt to break the monotony of my life was turbulent.  I started comparing my life with others’. Definitely. Not. A. Good. Thing. To. Do. This led me to think where I was lacking and got even more frustrated at the realization of how good-for-nothing I was for most of my life.  I couldn’t finish the book in the midst of anxiety, so I closed it. After suffering for few days, I opened the book again. This time I read it from the beginning. I wasn’t impressed by the protagonist. In fact, the story didn't pique my interest in the least, but to my surprise, I was very much affected by Paulo's thought-provoking ideologies. Ev...

How do you explain the life of a writer?

Same as everyone's life. Eat, work, and sleep. Oops! Kidding... But, I’ll tell you what I think is happening with most writers in the world as of present-day. A day usually starts with a good cup of coffee for a writer. He/she then starts to write and continue writing till the late evening or until the night breaks out with an accomplishment of minimum 2000 words and manages to finish a novel within 3 months. Once the novel gets published, he/she earns a best seller status in a year. This is kinda how a writer’s life should have been (ideally).  However, in reality, a writer’s life is not even close to that. For those who have misconceptions about writing game, here’s a much-needed reality check. Writer’s life is anything but pink summer. In fact, it is predominantly filled with rainy blues. For a writer, writing is 30% talent and 70% hard work . Our brain doesn’t overflow with creativity as people think. Even if it does happen once in a...

Ten basic tips (warning) for amateur story-writers from a reader.

For those who feel like your story sucks, fret not, because it doesn't. Your story simply lacks something and has to be crafted enough yet.  No ideas are bad ideas when it comes to writing a story. The trick for a good story lies not in the ideas, but in the way they are executed.  A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people                                                                                                                         -Thomas Mann True to this quote, writing is hard, and we have no choice but to learn it the hard way. Even if you aren't any good at writing, t here's always room for improvement to those who ...

K-Pop in my life, for my life, and as my life.

K-POP -  The word isn't as popular as now, a few years back when I was still in high school (2012). Just to let you know, I didn't know anything at all about Koreans, well, except for a few images of their models which I happened to see in google accidentally. Like any other people who have no idea about k-pop, I used to see Koreans, Chinese and Japanese as the same and the only people I can relate to these countries on the whole were Jackie chan, Bruce lee, Jet lee and Tony Ja. So as you can see, my knowledge about the existence of Korea was pretty much limited. I always have had this thought about East Asians that they couldn't/wouldn't be as cool as westeners since I've been blinded by the western bands and western pop music most of the times. But this prejudism of mine had become totally untrue after I came to know about them later via online communities and such. K-POP is the best thing that ever happened to me. And now it is a huge part of my life which I...
